Engineering Manager, Bots & Fraud

Cloudflare  ·  Austin, TX; New York, NY; Washington, DC

About the role

Leads an engineering team at Cloudflare that builds and scales its bot management, fraud detection and abuse mitigation products, the services that help customers tell people, AI agents and attackers apart in their traffic. The role is based in Austin, New York or Washington, DC, and works closely with Product Management and with Cloudflare's detection and research teams.

The engineering manager hires, mentors and develops engineers and builds a culture of ownership, and shapes the roadmap with Product by breaking customer problems into incremental deliveries while keeping reliability, performance and maintainability in balance. The work turns detection signals from the research teams into analytics and configurable controls that let customers weigh security against user friction and privacy, across real-time services on the global network, APIs and configuration, and high-volume data pipelines. The manager joins design discussions on distributed services and integrations, uses production data and customer feedback to improve effectiveness, owns the team's observability, safe releases and incident response, and works through dependencies with other teams and customer-facing partners.

Cloudflare wants a record of leading engineering teams as both technical leader and people manager, a strong background designing and operating large distributed systems, delivery from idea to production, fluent use of AI in engineering work and curiosity about web security, bots, fraud and AI agents. Experience building products that make decisions against adversaries, HTTP and browser knowledge, production machine learning, ClickHouse-style analytics and Go, Rust, Kafka or Kubernetes are valued.
