Director of Engineering, Webapp & AI Attack
Horizon3.ai · US, Remote
About the role
Leads the engineering teams at Horizon3.ai that build the web application and AI attack capabilities of NodeZero, the company's autonomous penetration testing platform. The director owns strategy, roadmap and organisational health for this portfolio, working with engineering managers, technical leaders, product, platform and customer-facing teams.
On the web side, the role sets direction for how NodeZero discovers and tests modern applications: crawling and browser automation, authentication and session handling, mapping pages, forms and APIs in JavaScript-heavy apps, and the benchmarks and regression practices that stop coverage from slipping. On the AI side, it turns research into LLM and agentic-system security into repeatable, safe attack capabilities, covering trust boundaries, tool use, retrieval architectures, prompt injection and AI supply chain risk, with standards for evaluation, cost and reliability. The director also hires and develops managers and senior engineers and drives cross-team initiatives into production.
Horizon3.ai looks for significant experience leading multiple software teams on customer-facing products, ideally in cybersecurity or security testing, a record of developing managers, and strong technical judgment in architecture and distributed systems. Familiarity with offensive security, web application pentesting, modern web architecture and AI system security is expected, along with fluency in a language such as Python, TypeScript or Go. The role is remote in the US.
