Engineering Manager, Firewall Defense
Horizon3.ai · US, Remote
About the role
Leads the Horizon3.ai team that validates, measures and tunes customers' web application firewalls, using what the NodeZero autonomous pentesting platform proves about real attacks to drive defensive changes. The team combines backend engineers with security practitioners who have deep firewall and defensive expertise, and the manager's job is to make those different skills and working rhythms strengthen each other.
The engineering manager owns hiring, career growth and how the team works as it scales, and partners with a staff-level technical lead who owns the architecture and with Product on roadmap and sequencing. The role turns firewall workflows into buildable requirements and product features, breaks ambiguous goals into sequenced work, manages scope instead of absorbing it, and sets the operating discipline of design review, release practices, on-call and incident response. It is a technical leadership post for someone past day-to-day coding who can still judge a design, question an estimate and spot a stuck team.
Horizon3.ai wants enough WAF or application security knowledge to work with domain experts, a record of leading technical backend or platform teams in SaaS, security or cloud settings, and experience delivering against fixed dates with unclear requirements. Familiarity with platforms such as AWS WAF, Cloudflare, F5, Imperva or Akamai, LLM-backed systems in production, security operations or offensive security, and streaming systems such as Kafka is preferred. Remote in the US.
