Sr. Engineering Manager, Core Products

A senior engineering manager for Illumio's Core Products group, based full time at the Sunnyvale headquarters of the zero trust segmentation vendor. The manager leads backend engineers who build the scalable cloud services and AI-enabled capabilities at the heart of Illumio's security platform, and owns the technical strategy and delivery for its distributed systems and platform APIs.

Day to day, the role defines architecture for microservices and event-driven applications running across AWS, Azure and GCP, sets practices for reliability, observability and operational excellence, and drives quarterly planning, staffing and technical roadmaps. It helps shape how Illumio brings agentic workflows, LLM integrations and retrieval-augmented generation into its products, partners with product management, security, infrastructure and data science, and coaches both engineering managers and senior engineers.

The posting asks for a decade of experience building scalable backend systems, at least three years leading engineering teams including leads or managers, strong skills in Java, Go or Python, and depth in cloud-native architecture, Kubernetes and Kafka. Practical knowledge of modern AI systems, from LLMs and agents to model serving and orchestration frameworks, is required, as is experience running production services with strong telemetry. Cybersecurity background, enterprise SaaS at scale, and Terraform or other infrastructure as code are bonuses. Candidates must be able to work with export-controlled technology.
