Engineering Manager, App Primitives

Leads App Primitives, the Vanta team responsible for the common components every product team relies on: comments, notifications, event logs, the feature flag system built on Statsig, and task management. App Primitives runs the general infrastructure, while product teams build their own logic on top of it.

The manager owns hiring, team health and delivery, and develops the senior engineers and technical leads on the team. The role sets the strategy and roadmap for these primitives and defines how product teams consume them, so others can build quickly and safely without having to run the underlying systems. It involves working with product engineering leaders across the company to find friction in shared systems and pick the investments that speed everyone up, setting technical direction for a full-stack team spanning data models, backend services and UI components, and handling dependencies across several concurrent workstreams with considerable autonomy.

Vanta wants five or more years in engineering, at least two of them managing engineering teams and developing senior engineers, plus experience leading platform or shared-services teams whose output others build on. Full-stack fluency, strong enough on backend services, data modelling and APIs to weigh in on the team's technical choices, is expected, as are success recruiting experienced engineers and careful, everyday use of AI tools. The role is remote in the US.
