Sr Engineering Manager, API Platform

Leads the API Platform and developer tooling at Zscaler as a senior engineering manager in the Zero Trust Exchange department, reporting to the Sr. Director for the API Platform team. The team of Senior Staff Engineers and other strong technical contributors provides the platforms Zscaler's engineering groups build on.

The manager sets the vision and roadmap for the platform and oversees how APIs are standardised, designed and governed across products. That includes the architecture and standards for product and provisioning APIs, so that state changes across distributed services stay reliable, reproducible and traceable. The team delivers microservices, workflow workers and SDKs in Java, Go and Python, using gRPC, Temporal, Postgres and Redis, and the manager works with Product Management and Security on secure, scalable solutions while making sure foundational knowledge is shared across the team.

The company wants eight or more years as an engineering leader, including three managing teams on developer tooling, API platforms or cloud systems, within ten or more years of software engineering. Hands-on API and SDK design for Kubernetes and Docker, a deep grasp of distributed systems, and strong knowledge of OpenAPI, REST and authentication and authorisation are expected. Experience in cloud security and networking, and in DevSecOps practices, would stand out. The role is hybrid, three days a week in Santa Clara.
